Announcement of public use of new permanent venues ahead of Tokyo 2020 Games

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) is pleased to announce the opening dates of new permanent

venues for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 for public use, following the postponement of the

Games. The venues will be open to the public to the extent that public usage does not interfere with the

delivery of and preparations for the Games. Venues will open for public use sequentially, once consultations

with the relevant organisations have concluded and safety measures for temporary overlays have been

implemented. At this time, the opening dates of the Kasai Canoe Slalom Centre and Tatsumi Water Polo

Centre have been decided, as detailed below. The opening dates of other new permanent venues will be

announced at a later date.

1. Venues

Please see following appendix 1 for details of activities and services and how to use the facilities.

1) Canoe Slalom Centre (to be known as the Kasai Canoe Slalom Centre during the Games)

2) Tokyo Tatsumi International Swimming Center (to be known as the Tatsumi Water Polo Centre during

the Games)

2. Other

Please note that sufficient infection control measures are being taken at each venue based on the TMG’s

"Roadmap to Overcoming COVID-19 – to build a society where the ‘new normal’ is firmly established".

In order to manage the temporary overlays for Tokyo 2020 Games, as well as ensure the safety of users,

each venue may have restrictions with respect to the usable area and how it may be used. Please follow

the instructions of the facility operator when using the venues.

The public use of venues may be suspended depending on the future novel coronavirus situation. We

would like to ask all users for their cooperation with measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and

ensure safety.

Canoe Slalom Centre

(to be known as the Kasai Canoe Slalom Centre during the Games)

1. Activities and services offered (tentative)

1) For practice use by sports federations:

To provide opportunities to practice to canoe slalom athletes preparing to compete at the

Tokyo 2020 Games.

2) For use by residents of Tokyo:

Rafting tours, kayak training sessions, etc. for residents of Tokyo are set to be offered. Further

information will be announced at a later date in consideration of the novel coronavirus

situation.

2. Schedule and how to use the facilities

1) For practice use by sports federations:

Monday 27 July to Monday 28 December 2020

Please note the venue isreserved due to a competition that will be held from Friday 21 August

to Monday 31 August 2020.

2) For use by residents of Tokyo:
